Earth Hour 2023: How You Can Make A Difference

Organised by WWF and partners in 2007, Earth Hour is now one of the largest environmental movements around. Read on to see how you can take part on Saturday 25th March 2023.

What is Earth Hour?

On Saturday 25th March, millions of people around the globe are switching off for an hour at 8:30 pm. This can be by switching your lights off or turning your phone off, to focus on doing something positive for our planet.

Earth Hour is more than just an hour in the dark, it's a time to reflect on our impact on the planet and how we can make a difference globally.

Why is Earth Hour important?

Coming together as a collective by turning off our lights for an hour can influence positive change for our planet.

By the end of 2030, greenhouse gas emissions could be halved. Nature and wildlife could thrive again.

It brings communities together. Over 9 million people in the UK took part in Earth Hour alone in 2020.

By reducing our environmental impacts, we can all make positive changes for our planet.

Earth Hour helps us to call on our government to pass important environmental laws.

Earth hour has already helped encourage beneficial environmental changes to protect our nature and climate.

Here are some ways you can do something positive for the Earth when you switch off your lights:

Watch an educational video.
Go to an Earth Hour event near you.
Watch a Nature Documentary. The Emmy-award-winning series 'Our Planet' is a great choice!
Listen to a Podcast.

Reconnect with our planet:

Take a walk to your nearest park.
Watch the sunset.
Go on a hike.
Meditate in your garden.

Restore our planet:

Pick up rubbish on your street. Make sure you recycle where you can!
Donate to WWF
Go to a restoration event near you.
Cook a sustainable meal.
Replace your lights with eco-friendly bulbs.
